Description
portrait of Child in Peterhof
cm 40×50, oil on canvas, year 2017.
During my holiday in Saint Petersburg, Russia, I visited the Peterhof park-museum. There are some fountains that spray water from the bottom up and parents tell the kids that to get a jet of water, one of the stones on the cobblestone needs to be trampled. So tens of children start running back and forth to look for the exact spot that will drop the water (in fact there is a man with his feet maneuvering the jet of water). I’ve been hours watching these kids play with water, bathe themselves, run and shout for joy when the rain surprised them. The way in which children approach life is always surprising to me and, above all, their ability to live happiness in full, perhaps because at that age the past and the future do not condition the present yet.
