ARTIST STATEMENT
My work revolves around capturing the essence of contemporary life, exploring themes of consumerism, identity, and the human experience. Through the medium of oil on canvas, I aim to transform the ordinary into the extraordinary, urging viewers to find meaning in the familiar.
In my series “Reclaimed Icons” and “Back from NYC,” I focus on iconic symbols of pop culture, such as Coca-Cola cans, fast food wrappers, and everyday items encountered during a journey through cities. These objects, often overlooked and discarded, are reimagined and elevated through the process of painting. By depicting them in their crumpled, used states, I bring forth a sense of history and narrative, challenging the viewer to reconsider their value and the cultural significance they hold. Inspired by the principles of pop art, this series invites a dialogue on consumerism, the ephemeral nature of products, and their impact on our collective consciousness.
In contrast, the “Pandemic Portraits” series shifts focus to the human condition, particularly the introspective and emotional states experienced during the global pandemic. These portraits of women, rendered with meticulous attention to detail, capture moments of quiet reflection, vulnerability, and resilience. The use of soft lighting and subtle color palettes enhances the emotional depth of each subject, creating an intimate connection between the viewer and the portrait. This series not only documents a unique period in history but also delves into the universal themes of solitude, strength, and the search for identity in times of uncertainty.
Through my work, I seek to explore the delicate balance between the ordinary and the profound, highlighting the beauty in everyday moments and the depth of human emotion.
